LCC 3020 Analysis

Class Makeup

By the end of the first week of the summer 1998 quarter, my two LCC 3020 classes consisted of approximately 80 students. Based on past enrollments, I expected approximately 40-50 students in two sections of the writing course; we lost the first week's time while I restructured the class to help accommodate the large number of students.

Rather than completely change the course content to simplify the project for the large number of students, I decided to provide a little more structure than I had intended at first, but to proceed with the project as I had planned it. The most difficult aspect of the project was that the students would have to find means to communicate with each other and coordinate their work among a huge group of horizontally structured participants. Fortunately, despite the frustration that this circumstance caused, I think it provided a valuable learning experience.
