Analysis of the ICARUS Project

Purpose of Web Site

This Web site is a product of the Winter 1999 LCC 3020 class project.  The class was instructed by Dr. TyAnna Herrington at the Georgia Institute of Technology.  The goal of the class project is to provide an accounting, analysis, and assessment of the "ICARUS Project," the one-hour Technical Communication Principles and Concepts course, in development. The intent of this analysis is to maximize student's learning and benefit from the the new web-based course. Information for this Web site was collected by library and internet research, written surveys, and personal interviews of students and experts in the field.

Elements of the Web Site

This Web site is divided into five elements:

Navigating the Report

The web site window is divided into three frames. The frame at the top contains the title of the report. You can click on the Title or the ICARUS icon at the top left of the screen to return to the home page.

The left frame contains the menus for the five different sections of the web site. When you click on one of the sections in the menu frame, you will be given a set of sub-headings within that section to jump to.

The content frame contains the content of the report. Each page in the content frame contains its own set of navigation. At the top of every content page is the name of the current section. Clicking on the section changes the menu frame. Below the section title is the current topic. A topic is the sub heading you see in the window frame of a particular section. Click on the Topic title to go to the first page within a given topic. Forward and Back Arrows are provided at the top of every content page to help the reader step throught the report sequentially. The forward arrow and textual description of the next page are provided at the bottom of the page.
