Vox: A Science Fiction Video Archive

VOX

Vox is a prototype of a digital research archive of moving image science fiction materials, including television shows, films, documentaries, web videos and other information. Using Vox, researchers and educators will be able to search through these materials at the film, episode or scene level and will be able to cross-reference different scenes according to different criteria. Information regarding cast and crew, production, theme and style will accompany each film, episode and scene. Researchers and educators will also be able to add video and textual content of their own to this database. In addition, Vox will provide a convenient alternative to tracking down external media sources (including Betamax, VHS and DVD), will increase availability of currently hard-to-find materials and will preserve moving image material that might be ephemeral otherwise. This prototype uses Star Trek (1966) as a case study due to the show's popularity in science fiction research.
