Web Design Links Uploading Assignments Each student is assigned an individual storage space on the Steel server. Students must upload their assignments to this space prior to the due time, using the correct naming and folder system. The assignment can be revised and reloaded as many times as needed, as long as the new file replaces the old file. Once uploaded, the assignment should appear in the appropriate section of the Assignments Page. If it does not appear, check your naming and file structure. If there are still problems, contact your teacher immediately. The Steel server requires that you connect to it using the Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP.) There are several free programs available for this purpose including FileZilla for Windows, and Fugu for Macs. Using an FTP Program Start by creating a new FTP site. (The following images are made using FileZilla.)
You will need to use the Steel username and password which will be emailed to you during the first week of class. Make sure that your program is connecting on port 22. The host is: steel.lcc.gatech.edu
Once in your directory on the Steel server, you will make a folder for the current assignment, comprised of "assignment + (assignment number)". For instance, if this is your second assignment the folders name would be: assignment2. In FileZilla this is accomplished by right clicking on the right hand (server window) and selecting "Create Directory."
The folder will be labled assignment2. Note that there is no space between assignment and the number, and the text is in lower case. After creating your folder, double click on its icon to enter that folder. Select the file you wish to upload and choose upload. In FileZilla this is accomplished by right-clicking the file you wish to upload. The file should now appear in your assignment folder. Quit the application, go to the Assignments Page, and make sure that your file is present and functioning. |
