For this project, I chose to incorporate several functional elements into my screensaver. I went with a constantly changing background gradient for an "old school" effect as well as a zooming in and out Apple logo, as I'm an Apple fan boy. The main part of this was an RSS reader. Screensavers don't have to be meaningless. I actually prefer the RSS reader screensaver that comes with OS X so I can keep tabs on what's going on online while sitting back in my chair doing homework or watching television. This Quartz screensaver loads and cycles through the most recent posts at my website, PaulStamatiou.com. The RSS aspect of the Quartz file was built upon the Quartz Composer's RSS template. I enjoy seeing what kind of FPS my computer is getting, a trait acquired from years of benchmarking my computer, so I included an FPS displayer in the bottom left corner. No functional screensaver would be complete without the date and time, as seen on the bottom. I included my picture in there as well.
