DeviantArt
DeviantArt is a website dedicated to artists; 'artists' in the sense of free expression. It serves as a community devoted to allowing individuals to freely express themselves. This site succeeds in the sense that it is a community of people with vastly different interests and yet, brought together through a common link: the arts. It would a vain attempt to try to explain the arts, but given the different genres one might better understand the concept of DeviantArt and the freedom in which expression isn't limited. Art can be submitted as written expressions (poetry, prose, blogs, etc...), as digital art (vectors, websites, graphics, etc...), as programs (java, user customizations, etc...), as photographs (portraits, landscapes, etc...), or anything that fits under the lavel of 'art.' Success can't be measured in numbers, but the numbers can speak for themselves. DeviantArt has reached well past 14 million deviations (submissions) in a community that is as diverse as two different individuals' way of thinking. I complete that DeviantArt is a flourishing website in that it establishes itself as a bridge between diversity in the world via computers and the art of self expression.
DavesDaily
DavesDaily isn't a site established arount the latest breaking news, but focuses on the humorous side of the news. It is a collection of articles from around the world that tends to linger on the more bizarre or comedic side of information. The articles may not receive major headlines from its original source, but they do get the last laugh. It serves as a medium to bridge the gap between stories of tragedy and the more nonsensical stories. There is something deeply fascinating about finding humorous situations in ordinary life, which is why I believe people enjoy reading the misfortunes and events of others. DavesDaily serves as a source for the digital means of news made public to all to laugh in its hilarity. I believe it is successful in the sense that it appeals to a wide variety of audiences to strike their funny bone.
