Written Assignment #1

	A website known for keeping college students in contact with each other is 
thefacebook.com.  Another website known for distributing information about a popular 
PC game is  thesims2.ea.com.  The Facebook website has become a site to visit by 
providing features to allow college students to find all the other students at their school, 
to search for college students at other schools, to form and join groups that represent you, 
and to contact each other with a messaging system.  The Sims 2 website is a place to visit 
especially for the people who would like to know more about the game and for people 
who play the game regularly.  The website has the latest news on the game, downloads 
for the game, player-made downloads for the game, and a forum for players to discuss the 
game with each other.

	Both of these websites use the community atmosphere from the material world in 
the website; Facebook allows peers to find each other and group together in their 
similarities while also allowing students to stay apart of each other’s lives while working 
on our degrees; The Sims 2 website allows players to share their ideas and questions with 
people who have the common interest of playing this game.  The web and computer 
technology used on the Facebook website is the site’s massive database of college 
students across America and the ability to search through the students in seconds.  The 
web and computer technology that the Sims 2 website uses is the ability to download and 
the ability to talk with people around the world simultaneously like in a chat room.

	The community atmosphere approach seems to be the most successful approach 
to a website.  When people go to a website they want to feel welcome and connected to 
the creator of the site and the other users on the site.  Enhancing a site with web and 
computer technology makes it more efficient and prettier, but not more of a place to be.  
People are always searching for connections and with a site that builds community, like 
The Facebook in a broad area and The Sims 2 website in a common interest, people will 
always be drawn to it.
