ASSESSMENT
Writing and Communication Program assessment involves evaluating students` performance on the stated objectives and outcomes in the classroom, programmatic success, and communication-across-the-curriculum initiatives.
Classroom Resources
Students` growth as communicators depends upon timely, meaningful feedback. These resources offer strategies for assignment design, peer feedback, instructor feedback, summative evaluation, and interpretation of student performance.
Program Assessment
The Writing and Communication Program has appointed a committee to revise the assessment plan, which currently includes a timed, in-class writing assessment and student course-evaluation data. The committee is working to corrolate student performance in their core communication courses with other scores of writing/verbal ability and their undergraduate success. The committee is charged with developing a plan to assess the new WOVEN (multimodal) curriculum.
Undergraduate Curriculum
English 1101 and 1102 provide an introduction to communication as a process, requiring attention to the rhetorical situation of the task and the multimodal options within it. These skills must be developed throughout students` undergraduate experience. Assessment resources suggest effective ways for incorporating communication in the disciplines and examples of current assessment initiatives beyond the introductory courses.
