LCC Registration: Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a permit for ENGL 1101 or 1102?

All seats in ENGL 1101 and 1102 are currently reserved for incoming freshmen in the fall. Returning students may register in the August phase of registration for any remaining seats. The only exception to this rule is seniors who are graduating in December, who may contact shannon.dobranski <at> lcc.gatech.edu to receive a permit.

LCC usually has about 50-75 seats available in ENGL 1101 for returning students in August. Returning students should watch OSCAR carefully in the August phase of registration to locate a seat that fits their schedules.

LCC has fewer ENGL 1102 seats left over in August, so returning students may want to plan to take the class in the spring, when LCC typically offers 70 sections without restrictions. Students who want to take the class in the fall, should complete their schedules with a different class and then watch OSCAR vigilantly in August to locate available seats.

Because composition courses require abundant faculty/student interaction, LCC does NOT issue overloads for ENGL 1101 or ENGL 1102.

How may I request an overload or a permit for an LCC class?

Overloads and permits for LCC courses may be requested on the OSCAR override request system. Pending requests will remain active through the August phase of registration.
