Neighborhood Networks
Through participant observation, generative workshops, and participatory design, the Neighborhood Networks project focuses on understanding and describing how communities use, or might use, emerging technologies as a means to publicly express and address their interests and concerns. The project is a collaboration with the CREATE Lab at Carnegie Mellon and UPCLOSE at the University of Pittsburgh. I am a co-PI on the project along with Illah Nourbakhsh. The project is funded in part by Intel Research.

Robot 250
Robot 250 is a massive robotic arts and education program in Pittsburgh. From a research perspective, Robot 250 provides a unique opportunity to investigate the development of technological fluency and social and cultural capital at the scale of the city. The project is directed from the CREATE Lab at Carnegie Mellon with collaboration from UPCLOSE at the University of Pittsburgh. I am a co-PI on the project along with Illah Nourbakhsh.

Design and The Construction of Publics
I am currently undertaking a project in theory and criticism on design and the construction of publics. This project draws heavily from the work of John Dewey and Bruno Latour and attempts to address questions such as:
+ how are publics different from "users" and "audiences"?
+ can design participate in the construction of publics?
+ does the construction of public constitute a specific practice?
+ what are the grounds for criticism for such projects?
Advancing Robotics Technology for Societal Impact
The ARTSI (Advancing Robotics Technology for Societal Impact) Alliance is a collaborative education and research project centered around robotics for healthcare, the arts, and entrepreneurship. I am a co-PI on this grant and will be working with students and faculty to explore and expand the role of the arts and activism in robotics education.
